Chunky knit scarves are a girl’s best friend in the cold winter months – stylish, cozy and super cute. But then you have to figure out the hair! Do you tuck your locks beneath, drape them over the top or is an updo best? That’s where the ladies at Salon Lux come in – here are our tips for pairing hair with your fave chunky scarf!
• Updos are your friends.
A messy top knot or a twist that’s a little lower and to the side are both great looks to pair with a scarf – keep it interesting with a bit of texture (we love UNITE’s creamy paste for that extra oomph of thickness and body) and try adding a few face-framing pieces to soften the look.
A simple three-strand braid (or you can step things up with a fishtail) is another way to keep your tresses from tangling or frizzing (which is guaranteed if they’re rubbing against your scarf!). Bonus – if the wind wreaks havoc on your hair, it’ll just add to that undone look, so you can’t really go wrong. Pair these simple styles with a soft nude lip – or a pop of something brighter if you’re feeling fierce – for a flattering winter style.
• Long hair? Go over, not under.
If you’re wearing it down and your hair is shoulder length or longer, keep this in mind: wearing it beneath a chunky scarf can make you sweat, giving you kinks. You also run the risk of losing definition to your jawline, and you’ll definitely end up with that faux bob bulge if you turn your head (and you will). Instead, keep your layers flowing over the scarf. But make sure you have a good cut – it’s going to be really noticeable one way or the other!
If your hair is above your shoulders, the ends should rest comfortably on or just under the highest layer of your scarf for an extra boost of volume.
