DIY beach waves – no beach necessary

Beachy summer waves are an effortless summer look – tousled, sexy, not trying too hard. The concept is simple – loose, textured waves courtesy of the salty ocean water and fresh sea air. The technique is surprisingly doable too, and even better? You don’t need a day at the beach to pull off those beachy waves. Our pick for faking it? We love UNITE’s BEACH Day Spray. It’s the kind of product you can pop in your bag with your sunscreen for instant style, no matter where you are. At home, just spray on towel-dried hair and scrunch. At the beach or the pool, just spray on towel-dried hair and scrunch. Easy peasy, right?  (more…)

One more business has announced a move to the Flint Street area near California Avenue, just south of downtown Reno.

Salon Lux will move in June to 231 Flint St. with expanded services including a “BB bar” for blowouts and braids, plus manicure stations and more stylists. The business has been operating at 100 California Ave. for about four years.

Owner Carissa Miles will be opening the location with a new partner, Lindsay Lu, who has worked with her at Salon Lux for more than three years. “We decided we’re ready for our next step. We want it to be something different from what Reno already has,” Miles said Tuesday.

An older brick house is being remodeled now for the salon, which will have six styling stations upstairs and three to four braid/blowout artists working downstairs, plus two manicure stations.

The salon will join Pignic Pub & Pantry, also opening in June, the newly moved Reno Fly Shop and the Great Basin Co-op as well as the Lake Mansion on an increasingly busy one-block area south of the Truckee River.
